Prioritizing safety and quality of care for the children and families we serve
At Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands, our top priorities are the safety and quality of care for the children and families we serve. Since 2012, we have been a member of Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS), a collaboration of more than 100 children’s hospital throughout the United States and Canada that works together to decrease hospital acquired harms.
Through an “all teach, all learn” philosophy, this collaboration works to implement best practices related to eliminating hospital acquired conditions (HACs). Currently, 13 HAC teams are actively implementing processes and gathering data to help keep our patients safe during their time in our care.
Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands also is a member of the Child Health Patient Safety Organization through the Children’s Hospital Association. This partnership enables us to share safety event information with other children’s hospitals in order to learn from each other and work on prevention measures to eliminate preventable harms.
We have created a Family Advisory Council to develop family-friendly education materials and receive feedback from a family perspective.
Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands has achieved unprecedented quality milestones in multiple areas throughout the hospital, including in our neonatal intensive care units (NICU) in Prisma Health hospitals. Our nurses are the backbone of our quality achievements and it takes teamwork to achieve and sustain this level of success.
