ThinkFirst for Kids

Educating students about traumatic injury prevention

ThinkFirst for Kids offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to educate students about the prevention of brain, spinal cord and other traumatic injuries. Injury-prevention health educators provide these programs through a network of national and international ThinkFirst chapters in hospitals, universities and health care settings. The overarching goal is to increase knowledge and encourage safety habits at an early age.

Based on age group, topics can include:

  • Brain and spinal cord injury

  • Vehicle, water and bicycle safety

  • Violence and conflict resolution

  • Sports and recreation safety

  • Risk taking

  • Suffocation, choking, poisons, drugs and allergic reactions

About ThinkFirst

The program includes:

  • A 45-minute interactive presentation that can be tailored for a classroom or school-wide setting
  • An 11-minute animated video presenting a variety of real-life situations that are relatable to kids
  • Classroom posters, activity sheets and comic strips

Who can participate?

The program is offered to grades 1-3, 4-5 and 6-8.
