Hemophilia Treatment Center
Palmetto Health has South Carolina’s only federally supported comprehensive Hemophilia Treatment Center, serving both children and adults. Through the federal government’s 340b program, the Hemophilia Treatment Center is able to purchase hemophilia clotting factor concentrates at a substantially reduced price.
The Hemophilia Treatment Center serves 140-150 hemophilia patients, including 55-60 pediatric patients and 85-90 adult patients. Two clinics are offered each month. Our multidisciplinary clinics address psychosocial needs and family dynamics to serve our patients and their families.
Our center has participated in My Life Our Future, a nationwide campaign for progress in hemophilia. Participants were offered free genotyping to gain a deeper understanding of their hemophilia, while helping to advance hemophilia science and breakthrough treatments. Thousands of people were genotyped through the program, creating the largest hemophilia research repository in the world.
Participation in the 340b program enables the Hemophilia Treatment Center to support bleeding disorder patients with a nurse coordinator, a physical therapist and a social worker, who provide essential aspects of their care. For non-government insured patients of the Hemophilia Treatment Center, the reduced-cost medication can be offered subject to insurance approval.
